Abstract

During the recent Israeli bombardment of Beirut, an Egyptian journalist commented: ‘Most Arab rulers enjoy watching this because the sight of an Arab woman reading an uncensored book, printed in Beirut, would upset them far more than the sight of phosphorous-burnt children in a Beirut hospital.’
