Abstract

Using cross-sectional data from household files of the World Fertility Survey this study explores sociodemographic determinants of leaving the parental household among young adults in Colombia Costa Rica the Dominican Republic Mexico Panama and Peru in the mid-1970s. The article describes the relationships between being a child of a household head on the 1 hand and age sex marital status urban/rural residence education and work status on the other thus providing a baseline for future studies of the family life course of Latin Americans.
