Abstract

Among the diverse fields of organ, cell, and tissue transplantation, the risk of infectious disease transmission from donor to recipient is common. Mitigating this threat requires robust donor assessment, accurate laboratory assays, and vigilance among clinicians caring for donors and recipients. In the past 10 years, reemergence and emergence of new pathogens, such as Zika virus and SARS-CoV-2, has added to an already lengthy list of infectious agents that need to be considered as part of surgical and medical transplantation risks.
