Abstract
The paper clarifies issues about the concepts of inner dialogue language of characters in a story. After reviewing literature, terms and different concepts of the inner dialogue by Hoa Nguyen (2006), Han Le, Su Tran and Phi Nguyen (2006), Katie Wales (2001), and Mikhail Bakhtin (1993), the paper’s author introduces positions, modes of expression and roles of the inner dialogue in story language. In this paper, the inner dialogue is considered characters’ language, and it is surveyed from the perspective of philology.

Khái niệm đối thoại nội tâm nghe còn “lạ tai” với một số người trong giới nghiên cứu văn học lẫn ngôn ngữ. Trong cả ba quyển từ điển thuật ngữ văn học bằng tiếng Việt uy tín nhất hiện nay ở Việt Nam[1] đều không có mục từ đối thoại nội tâm. Trong quyển sách dịch thứ hai này, từ đối thoại nội tâm xuất hiện 22 lần, cả trong phần giới thiệu của Trần Đình Sử và cả trong phần dịch nguyên bản của M. Theo chúng tôi, từ đối thoại nội tâm trong quyển sách trên là do Trần Đình Sử dịch từ thuật ngữ внутренный диалог của tiếng Nga. Thuật ngữ này vừa có thể dịch là đối thoại nội tâm, vừa có thể dịch là đối thoại bên trong. Bản thân Trần Đình Sử khi dịch quyển sách trên cũng có dùng thuật ngữ đối thoại bên trong 3 lần trong phần dịch nguyên bản của M. Nhưng trong quyển “A dictionary of stylistics” (Từ điển Phong cách học) của Katie Wales lại có mục từ interior dialogue[13]
