This study examines how the principles associated with the Lean Aerospace Initiative and the Lean Enterprise Model can be applied toward scheduling activities at the U. S. space launch ranges (Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg AFB). Benchmarking is included for current launch scheduling practices and changes under the Range Standardization and Automation Program. While there are aspects of the current and proposed scheduling operations that are determined to follow lean concepts, some practices are considered wasteful when examined with lean concepts in mind. Lean practices currently used by the defense aerospace industry are considered as potential benefits in moving toward leaner scheduling operations.
