Abstract

This article discusses how aging infrastructure and increasing supply pressures are prompting a growing effort by water utilities to manage water loss. The article provides examples of utilities that are using sophisticated correlators to filter out background noise and compare signals from multiple sensors to locate small main leaks. The article also provides examples of utilities using tethered inline acoustic leak‐detection systems for locating trunk main leaks. The article discusses the type of pipe that is more likely to break and/or leak.
