Abstract

Leaf tissue of the Winteraceous species Tasmannia lanceolata obtained from 58 plants from 12 locations around Tasmania was dried and extracted in petroleum ether. The resulting extract was then analyzed for the presence of the sesquiterpene polygodial. Extract yield varied from 0.88% to 13.3% w/w of dry leaf and polygodial levels were found to range between 0.11 and 2.9% w/w of dry leaf. Variation of polygodial levels between and within sites is compared for the 58 plants surveyed.
