Abstract
An alkaloid, 8-methoxy dictamnine ( 1) and a fagaramide like compound ( 2) were isolated from the leaves of ZANTHOXYLUM RUBESCENS for the first time. These compounds were absent in the root and stem barks from which nitidine chloride (0.013% (w)/ (w))( 3) and 9-methoxylchelerythrine (0.18% (w)/ (w))( 4) (possibly an artefact from chelerythrine) were isolated.
