Abstract

An increasing number of health care education institutions are changing their process of teaching/learning. This paper addresses general leadership qualities and two components of a leadership strategy for successfully presenting and implementing curriculum change: (1) a leadership strategy for presenting faculty and students with a new curriculum concept, and (2) a leadership strategy which organizes the process for developing and implementing a new curriculum. The leader of the day-today responsibilities for change must be empowered with the authority to proceed with the process for change and to empower others within the lines of authority to effect that change. As the leader delegates duties and empowerment to the faculty, a very broad form of transformative leadership begins to evolve. The successful leader becomes a leader of leaders by encouraging and developing the leadership abilities of others to work as equals toward consensus for change.
