Applications are due by Jan. 10, 2011, at 5 p.m. ET. The program is designed for ASHA members who would like to: Acquire leadership skills to advance a health care career. Build a lifelong professional network. Give back to the profession through volunteer service. Influence policies, programs, and services. Program Overview Leadership in Health Care is a year-long program for ASHA members with leadership potential. The program encourages participants to develop their leadership skills and give back to the professions through volunteer service—with ASHA, in the workplace, or for a related professional organization. Leadership in Health Care participants must commit to all program components: Participate in a full-day Leadership in Health Care Program on April 8, 2011, at the ASHA national office in Rockville, Md., immediately preceding the ASHA Health Care Conference/ Business Institute held April 9–10 in nearby Bethesda, Md. Attendance at the conference, which is separate from the Leadership in Health Care Program, is encouraged but not required. Participate in monthly virtual activities on selected leadership topics. Develop and complete an individual leadership project. Successful applicants pay a nominal fee of $350, which covers the April 8 program, one night in a hotel, meeting materials, and 12 monthly virtual activities. Those who choose to attend the ASHA Health Care Conference/Business Institute are responsible for registration and other conference-related expenses. Eligibility This unique leadership program is seeking energetic people who are motivated to influence professional issues in health care and who: Hold current ASHA membership. Have not served on an ASHA or special interest division committee, board, council, working group, or task force. Are able to commit to participating in and completing all program requirements. Application Those interested in applying to the Leadership in Health Care Program’s Class of 2011 should send an e-mail to [email protected] with a subject line of “Leadership in Health Care Program” and their full name and ASHA membership number. Within 24 hours of sending the e-mail, the applicant will receive a link to the online application. The completed application must be submitted by 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 10, 2011.
