Abstract

ABSTRACT Leaching behaviors of iron-rich pyrolusite slag in oxalic acid solution were explored to investigate the influences of leaching time, temperature, liquid-solid ratio, and concentrations of H+ and oxalic acid on the leaching characteristics of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). Leaching rates of Fe and Mn reached 97% and 92% under optimum leaching conditions, respectively. Furthermore, leaching process of Fe was controlled by the chemical reaction between oxalic acid and Fe, and leaching process of Mn was controlled by both the diffusion of oxalic acid across the residual layer as well as the chemical reaction between oxalic acid and Mn.
