Abstract
Summary A new Phlebovirus isolated from Phlebotomus major collected on the island of Corfu, in Greece, is described. This virus is antigenically closely related to the Sicilian type, of which it can be separated only by the plaque reduction test. The particularities of the transmission of the sandfly fever group of viruses in the eastern part of the Mediterranean basin are briefly discussed. For the designation of this agent, we propose the name «Corfou virus.
