Abstract

This Byzantine gold hoard was incidentally found near the coast in the city of Chebba, the ancient Caput Vada, in Tunisia. It consists in 109 solidi of Justinian I and Maurice. It contains six light-weight solidi. This hoard was probably lost or buried at the end of the 6th or in the early 7th century. The circumstances of burial could be related to the troubles engendered by the revolts of the Moorish tribes that affected Africa throughout the 6th century.
