Abstract
Transsexualism remains an enigma. Is it related to the offer of a hormonal and surgical reassignment? Is it a true nosographical entity? There is a divergence of opinions, and also an intervention of the media which is certainly noxious for the transsexuals themselves. As far as the intervention is considered as legal by the relevant authorities and a change of civil status is granted, the medical treatment should be coherent and appropriate. A protocol of multidisciplinary evaluation of every request for a sex reassignment is proposed, including a psychiatric evaluation, a medico-social help, a psychological assessment, an endocrinological assessment and a surgical examination, before taking any irreversible decision.
