Abstract

The Tour de France is certainly one of the most famous and geographical symbol of the French identity. After more than a century of existence, its design remains an on-going process. At first a mere sportive event, this cycling race quickly turns into a national event as soon as it started to deal with France boundaries and the selection of significant cities. France’s mountain ranges play an important part in the legend’s built up. Steep slopes harden the competition and every racing cyclist needs to clear the obstacles if he hopes to win. As all modern heroes, cyclists wear trademarked shirts and national-coloured ones. During the latest decades, despite the globalization of the race has outclassed the French cyclists, it remains a French flavoured competition.
