Abstract
Althought they do not live in the same littoral zones, the Red Algae such as Lithophyllum tortuosum, and the Vermetids, for example Vermetus cristatus and Dendropoma petraeum produce similar biogenic constructions which have a double action in coastal morphology : at first they protect their bearers, secondly they guide and increase erosion on the non protected parts of the rock. Sometimses these Red Algae and Vermetids form a continuous cover on the rock, between the low Médiolittoral and hight Infralittoral zones, and yet a corrosion platform may appears at the junction layer of these two zones. This fact expresses a discontinuous presence of these living organisms in time and space, a succession of accretion and corrosion processes, and poly genie and poly cyclic development of the coastal morphodynamics. Hence doubts may rise on the periods of formation of this Vermedid and Algal rims, and therefore on the exact meaning of these constructions as for the interpretation of the former sea-level changes.
