Abstract

Born in a catholic family involved in the textile industry in Roubaix, horseman Luis Bossut draws from his strong family values to show an authentic spirit of total devotion to his patriotic duty during the Great War. When the strategic and technical evolution in the war has the cavalrymen dismounted, this peerless officer, needing to take up a new challenge, answer immediately to the call for volunteers by the assault artillery (French name of the new service branch using tanks). Killed too son, fallen on the battlefield during the first French tank engagement, history seems to rule in favour of this pioneer who expressed reservations about the tactic implemented by high command.Remembered forever as the first hero of this new branch, his exemplary career makes him the archetype of the heroic fighter of the First World War.
