Abstract
In the epigram IX, 61, Martial mentions a plane tree Cesar planted in Cordoba at the end of March 45 B.C. after his victory near Munda. This tree symbolizes the (future) efflorescence of the Julio - Claudians (it is an ancient Indo-European idea), and a twofold axis mundi : the one shows the Roman power in the West, the other shows, because the plane tree comes from the East, the Roman power in the East and soon in the Parthian Empire. The plane tree would mark universal power of Cesar and of his heirs ; among them Martial things of the Flavians.
