Abstract

Through the study of planning projects located within the area of the schema de cohesion territoriale (local plan) of Tours, this paper analyzes how farmland in peri-urban spaces is appropriated by various local actors. To satisfy sometimes conflicting expectations, local authorities tend to limit land consumption by considering farming activities as heritage or farmland as a “generic” resource. These dichotomous views do not consider land as a non-renewable resource: they allow for the continuation of the consumption of land.
