Abstract

Following the condemnation of Jesus by Pontius Pilate, there were periodic persecutions of Christians by the roman authorities over the next three centuries. The author analyses the reasons why Jewish communities played an active part in these persecutions. From the beginning they understood that Christianity would appear as an uncontrolled extension of judaism and would therefore be a threat to the privileged status granted to jewish religion by the roman authorities.
