Abstract

The five-factor model (FFM) assumes that adequate description of personality may be reached by considering no more than five broad dimensions. Some researchers recently investigated the relationships between these dimensions and the Rorschach scores, but they found few or puzzling associations. This paper presents the results of 80 non-psychotic psychiatric patients, who were administered both the Rorschach and the NEO PI-R. Even though the findings show some moderate correlations, especially between Openness and some Rorschach variables, there are few relationships between the FFM dimensions and what is measured by the Rorschach. These findings are discussed in the light of a speculation designed to differentiate personality traits from the psychological realities addressed by the Rorschach, which may be much more specific.
