Abstract

Jade is considered one of the most precious stones in the world. In Chinese, 玉 Yù is a word used to describe a very beautiful gem, it could also be simply translated by « precious ». It is the general name for “jade” and its different mineralogical varieties, such as jadeite and nephrite. Jade is this incredible material of various aspects, associated with numerous symbolics, much desired by collectors and jewelers all around the world. But to truly understand Jade, it is imperative to look further than just its gemological properties. One needs to understand its place and importance within Asian culture to understand its worth. As its rarity increases, so does the apparition of various treatments and imitation of jade within the market.
