Abstract

ContextThis theoretical article explores the contribution of Freudo-Marxism to the analysis of authoritarian movements in the context of late capitalism. It is based on the combination of the Freudo-Marxist approach, particularly the work of Wilhelm Reich and of Herbert Marcuse, and a sociological approach to capitalist states of exception developed by Nicos Poulantzas. GoalsThe article seeks to demonstrate how this combination of approaches can provide us with tools to understand authoritarian movements. MethodIt is mainly a theoretical exploration of the major themes linking Marxist political analysis and the psychoanalytic approach. ResultsThe main result consists in the resumption of Freudo-Marxist analyses to shed light on certain contemporary political problems. The article takes up the major concepts of Marxism such as social class, productive forces, dominant ideology by combining them with the concepts of psychoanalysis, such as libido, Eros, drive, etc. ConclusionThe conclusion opens on the question of propaganda and its link with authoritarian regimes.
