Abstract

Proximal tibia fractures are often caused by high energy trauma. In these cases external fixation may be applied as a temporary osteosynthesis waiting for improvement of the patient’s local and general conditions or as a method for definitive treatment. In selected cases, definitive external fixation allows a stable fixation with a minimally invasive approach, both in terms of reduced skin incisions but especially in terms of respect of the fracture site’s biology.
