Abstract
Multidisciplinary, non-binary artist Xavier Gould is queering Acadian culture through drag performance. Gould has been entertaining many Canadians through their satirical YouTube character Jass-Sainte Bourque and has recently created a welcoming space for rural Acadians in Moncton’s First-Ever Drag Ball Acadien. The event in August of 2019 was the first of many future drag balls, offering a site of inspiration for often unheard and unseen queer artists. Collaboratively written by Gould and queer theatre creator Luke Brown, the article looks at contemporary modes of expression for queer artists in Acadie and how drag is being used as a tool for reclaiming the history of its communities.
