Abstract

Before going into exile in Montreal to escape the Duvalierist dictatorship, Dany Laferrière had understood the cosmopolitical significance of the cosmos, which had become the hallmark of primitive Haitian painters. The combination of cosmic and cosmopolitical dimensions, the guarantee of lasting peace in the world (Latour, 2007), inspired him in turn to adopt the posture of a primitive writer and a committing man; condition which earned him, after fittings on all continents, to wear the green habit of the Immortals. With the readings that forged him, from Montaigne to Borges via Diderot, Whitman, Tanizaki, Malraux and Charles, Dany Laferrière presents himself as the tester (Tassin, 2014) of a cosmopoetics sensitive to Relation (Glissant, 1990).
