Abstract

Y. Person — Long-Distance Trade in Precolonial Africa as a Factor of Social Diversification. While Y. Person supports Roberts on his appreciation of Hopkins' Economie History, he critieizes him for his neglect of the importance of trading and mining in a number of stateless societies. In Lovejoy's paper on kola, he finds faults only with a few linguistic points which tend to overstress the role of Mandingo peoples in this trade.
