Abstract
Collusion between mafia organizations and white-collars workers in Italy represents a crucial issue in a deeper understanding of indigenous organized crime. Regarding this, the book edited by Rocco Sciarrone, Alleanze nell’ombra. Mafie ed economie locali in Sicilia e nel Mezzogiorno, provides a systematic analysis of relationships between Mafiosi and a large “mob” of players, formally operating in legal areas, such as local administrators, national politicians, professionals, and entrepreneurs. Without these strategic relationships, Italian mafia-type associations would have quickly lost their power and deep roots in Italian society, reducing them to a short-lived criminal phenomenon.
