Abstract

Abstract. - The study of the holocene alluvial fill of the Xeropotamos stream shows the importance of the historical erosion in eastern Macedonia. The first erosion crisis take place later than in many areas in Greece. It occurs at the end of the Antiquity and in the paleochristians times. A second one occurs in the last centuries. The main factors of the erosion and the backfilling are clearance of the vegetation and exceptional hydrological events.
