Abstract

The LDH isozyme of the maxillary sinus mucosa in the state of sinusitis and of the maxillary cancer tissue was investigated. Furthermore, alteration in the LDH isozyme pattern of the maxillary cancer tissue, after the combined therapy with intra-arterial infusion of the anti-neoplastic agent and radiation, was studied. The LDH isozyme in the maxillary mucosa presented a pattern with high peaks of the 3rd fraction (LDH3, L3) and the 4th fraction (LDH4, L4). In average, distribution of 5 isozymes was L1 L5). This fact suggests the disturbance in the metabolic function of the cancer cells, namely, reduction of anaerobic glycolytic ability, occurred as a result of degeneration and necrosis caused by the therapy.
