Abstract

Objectives: To verify the occurrence of pressure ulcer at the Surgical Room and analyze the risks and associated factors. Method: This is a retrospective study with quantitative approach, based on the analysis of patients’ records, between January and December 2011. Results: Forty patients (0.1%) developed pressure ulcer, mostly men aged greater than or equal 65 years. The most performed surgeries were in the abdominal and thoracic sites, in horizontal surgical supine position and under general anesthesia. Most patients had some risk for developing pressure ulcer and most of these were Stage I, with the highest incidence in the sacral region. The main device used for prevention was the cushions. Conclusion: Although pressure ulcer prevalence of the patients in the Surgical Room was low, the study highlights a reality in which nurses must be aware and plan more assertive and resolving preventive actions.
