Abstract

Visual grading of standardized before/after images is a mainstay clinical outcome in dermatology/cosmetic science. However, the method is typically time and labor intensive. Here we use crowdsourcing to measure visible treatment efficacy quickly and accurately in an eczema clinical trial. The double-blind, randomized, vehicle-controlled study enrolled 17 men and 25 women ranging in age from 18 to 64 and having at least one active eczema lesion. Subjects were randomized to either active (rosemary extract containing carnosic acid, a Staphylococcus aureus quorum sensing inhibitor, n=26) or vehicle (n=16).
