Abstract

Systemic autoimmune myopathies (SAM) are a group of rare rheumatic diseases associated with high morbidity and disability. Recent studies have shown a high prevalence of hyperlipidemia in patients with SAM. While statins are commonly used lipid-lowering medications, the safety of statin use in patients with SAM is still unclear. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety of statin use in patients with pre-existing SAM. We performed a single-center retrospective cohort study of adult patients with clinically diagnosed SAM between 2008-2018.
