Abstract

For several discrete growth models, the damping time of layer-by-layer growth, manifesting itself in oscillations of the surface width, will be related to parameters appearing in the corresponding continuum equations. The control parameter in all cases is the so called noise-reduction parameter $m$. The damping time depends on $m$ with power laws determined by the continuum equations. The Eden model (versions A and B), and models related to molecular beam epitaxy are considered.
