Abstract

After an introduction to the development of laws, ordinances, and technical standards serving safety and environmental protection, negative aspects of the current situation in Germany and in the European Union are described and summarised in eight conclusions. From these it is evident that laws, ordinances, and administrative decrees are impeding industrial and commercial development in Germany, acting as a negative influence on the attractiveness of Germany as an industrial and commercial site. Finally, eight demands corresponding to the eight conclusions are presented on the basis of the author's 30 years' experience in the field. The German Federal Government and even the European Commission must tread new paths to re-establish the reputation of Germany, and Europe in general, as an attractive industrial and commercial site.
