Abstract

Aging is a natural process, which inevitably occurs in the human life cycle. It brings with it a host of challenges in the life of the elderly people, which are mostly engineered by the changes in their body, mind, thought process and the life patterns. Further aging refers to a decline in the functional capacity of the organs of the human body, which occurs mostly due to physiological transformation; however, it does not imply that everything is finished. The senior citizens constitute a precious reservoir of human resource gifted with knowledge of various sorts, varied experiences and deep insights on various fields in general and with mythology, Vedas, shastras, puranas, culture and tradition in particular. The Indian Parliament in view of public welfare, has enacted a law on Maintenance of Senior Citizens and Parents in the year 2007 to set social protection systems, health care and housing policies are suited for older people. The Current Article examines The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 with reference to other existing legislation
