Abstract
A comprehensive assessment of the service properties of polyester fibre leads to the conclusion that it represents a promising material for the manufacture of a rubberreinforcing textile. According to data published by the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for Technical Textiles, the replacement of cotton by polyester yarn in the manufacture of technical rubber products would reduce prime costs by 12,000 20,000 roubles per ton fibre on average. Owing to the low adhesion of polyester fibre its use in the rubber industry is limited. A treatment of a polyester textile material with the latex-resorcin-formaldehyde (LRF) composition used for viscose rayon and polyamide fibres does not produce the necessary adhesion strength.
