Abstract

As a young girl, Laura Hammitt was able to see different parts of the USA, including remote Alaska, thanks to her father's work as a mineral exploration geologist. These experiences included meeting Alaska Native families with whom her dad worked, yet she did not know then how Indigenous communities were to become a major focus of her career.
