Abstract

Blind Man’s Buff at the Museum: A Live Reconstruction of the Traditional Lithuanian Folk Game Lauminėjimas This article analyses the live reconstruction of Blind Man’s Buff as the version of traditional Lithuanian folk game Lauminėjimas at the Open-Air Museum of Lithuania. The article examines the reconstruction as a performative process, when the game creates a situation during which moving in a large and complex exhibit, a dwelling surrounded by small exhibits, the participants unexpectedly encounter authentic exhibits as an ethnographic entity. Participants acquire individual experiences of getting to know the dark period of the Christmas season in many ways in the context of prior and acquired knowledge in the museum through symbols encoded by the museum staff.
