Abstract

IN work on the aluminium-zinc1 and gold–nickel alloy systems2, it has been shown that lattice vacancies occur in solid solutions when Brillouin zones are filled. Similar experiments have been made on copper–nickel alloys, and it is found that lattice vacancies occur in these alloys particularly when they contain less than 80 per cent nickel, the maximum being about 2 per cent at 45 per cent nickel.
