Abstract

A simple two-band model is proposed to analyze the emission spectra of the Auger decay-free core luminescence. The initial state is assumed as being a self-trapped state of the hole in the outermost core band. A bound state of the valence band hole splits off from the continuum in the final state of the transition due to the lattice distortion. This model predicts the existence of an extra high energy peak, the low energy tail and the weak temperature dependence of the luminescence line shape in a qualitative agreement with the observation.
