Abstract
Designof suitable transition layer is of great importance for the preparation of high-performance multilayer coatings for metallic bipolar plate. In present work, complete lattice matching growth of TiCrN surface layer on the TiCr transition layer is demonstrated. The double-layer TiCr/TiCrN coating exhibits both excellent anti-corrosion performance and surface conductivity, i.e., a low corrosion current density (Icorr) of 0.070 μA/cm2 (0.5 M H2SO4 + 2 ppm HF, 80 °C with air) and a small interfacial contact resistance (ICR) of 2.3 mΩ cm2 at 140 N/cm2, respectively. Moreover, the TiCr/TiCrN coating shows excellent long-term stability under the conditions proposed by the U.S. Department of Energy (pH = 3, 0.1 ppm HF, 80 °C with air), i.e., the current density maintains at around 0.02 μA/cm2 during the 300 h potentiostatic test at 0.2 V (vs. Hg/Hg2SO4).
