Abstract

The lattice expansion of unit cell in three kinds of nanoscale compound particles, MgO, α-Fe 2O 3 and TiC was calculated as a function of particle size, by means of the Thomas–Fermi statistical method. The calculated curves agree surprisingly well with experimental data. Both curves increase parabolic as the particle size decreases. Hence we can visualize a physical picture of neutralization of screened effect coming from decrease in binding electron ratio for nanoscale compound particles.
