Abstract

In this work, the gas phase formation enthalpies (kJmol−1) to hydrazoic acid, Pb, Ag and Cu azides were calculated as: HN3 = 310.00; AgN3 = 509.70, Pb(N3)2 = 768.37 and Cu(N3)2 = 855.45. The respective phase transition enthalpies (kJmol−1) are: HN3(l) → HN3(g) = 9.70; AgN3 (s) → AgN3 (g) = 198.70; Pb(N3)2(s) → Pb(N3)2(g) = 284.37 and Cu(N3)2(s) → Cu(N3)2(g) = 268.45. By using and empirical equation, the detonation velocity to cupric azide, Cu(N3)2 (s), was estimated as 7340 ms−1.
