Abstract

Lattice dynamics of CeB 6 has been studied by an inelastic neutron scattering experiment. The acoustic and optical modes of dispersion curves are measured in the high symmetry directions of the crystal by the triple-axis spectrometers. Flat low-frequency Ce-modes are similar as in LaB 6 but about 1 meV lower in energy than those in LaB 6 . Those little differences of the flat modes between CeB 6 and LaB 6 explain the so-called magnetic specific heat anomaly at around 40 K in CeB 6 reported previously.
