Abstract
Antiferromagnetic MnPS${}_{3}$ and diamagnetic ZnPS${}_{3}$ belong to a family of two-dimensional compounds that exhibit a rich variety of magnetic ordering. Low-temperature Raman spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometer measurements are performed on both compounds and their alloy in order to evaluate a possible Jahn-Teller distortion as well as to reveal magnetic and alloy signatures. With the aid of first-principles calculations, a description of the lattice dynamics of the system is presented, together with the magnetic phase diagram across the entire compositional range.
