Abstract

This entry provides an overview of Latin and South American journalism, with a historical overview of its evolution, the contextual factors surrounding the development of journalism as well as the strengths and relevance of journalism in the region. It provides country‐specific information on important factors surrounding journalism as well as an overall view of the different media systems that journalism operates under. This entry investigates news media and power relations, and how journalism in Latin America has evolved under this paradigm. It provides some current trends, challenges, and opportunities in Latin and South American journalism.
