Abstract
Global changes at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries confirm the formation of a polycentric world, where the states of the previous world periphery play an increasingly important role. A fundamental collective research prepared by Saint Petersburg historians analyses the role of Latin America in the context of globalization. Political changes, territorial disputes, armed conflicts and other challenges to the regional security are also examined. Special attention is paid to the integration, relations between Latin American states with extra regional actors of world politics, to the role of the continent in global political processes. The monograph also describes the foreign policy of some states in the region and their position on key issues on the global agenda.
