Abstract

ABSTRACT : In the adolescence, self-esteem is a key to success in life. A positive self esteem can evoke self confidence. Self-esteem in adolescence is very vulnerable to be disturbed. So teenagers are at risk of going low self-esteem. The results of the study of MAN I school in West Bogor showed that 61.53% of teenagers have low self-esteem. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of selfawareness exercises and cognitive therapy to the adolescent self-esteem. The benefits of this research is to enhance the development of school health nursing programs, especially in self-awareness exercise intervention and cognitive therapy to improve adolescent self-esteem. The design of this study is a Quasi-Experimental Research involving pre and post tests with control group. The number of respondents were 148, consist of 74 adolescents in the intervention group, and another 74 adolescents in the control group. The sampling is done by multi-stage random sampling. The results showed a high significant differences exist between self-esteem of teenagers before intervention with adolescent selfesteem after intervention and cognitive therapy. While in the control group there was no difference. There are differences in adolescent self-esteem in the intervention group and the control group at posttes. From this result, it can be concluded that the exercise of self-awareness and cognitive therapy can improve the self-estem of adolescent.
