Abstract

Spectral lines continue to be used as an important practical tool for diagnosing various laboratory and astrophysical plasmas. As experiments move to very high electron densities of plasmas or to strongly magnetized plasmas, new physical phenomena have to be taken into account while calculating Stark broadening of hydrogen spectral lines. As for spectral lines having dipole-forbidden components (such as, He-, He-like-, Li-, Li-like-lines), it is shown that they provide the best way for diagnosing Langmuir solitons in plasmas.
